3D Text as Texture

My choice of objects was really good for this piece.  I think the design and the texture background work really good together and have a nice flow.  Adding the larger text to one of the corners also helped the design by drawing your eye to that section of the piece.

Text as Texture

I believe that these textures turn out good because I have a good variety of organized and unorganized texture.  With the size, direction and organization of the text  in each piece, I felt like I didn't need to add raised texture.  Scaling the entire set of 8 down to 8"x8" with no border was a good choice because it makes the entire design look clean and precise.

Final Human Dot Composition

Here are my final human dot compositions.  The overall theme for them is "Drunken Dots".  Our materials consisted of beer bottles, styrofoam cups and paper to make our dots.  I feel like they both turned out good and fit the theme very well, especially the second piece.  Alignment in the first piece could have been changed a little bit to make it more effective, but overall the use of all the objects and ideas was very creative.

The Exquisite Corpse Two

Sentence:  The bright sun dreamer spelunk some crazy chair.
I went swimming over the weekend.  As I was swimming, I noticed that there was a bright reflection on the water and the ripples reminded me of a dream.  this is because of all the lines that the reflection of the sun makes.  I was worried about my choice of photograph at first, but I think it works well with the sentence.

Final Cardboard Project Critique

My group thought that my piece looked good.  They said I need to extend the texture to the back.  There was also to much curl on the main part of the antlers.  Another thing I could do is put a shine on the cardboard to make it look more like the antlers.  Overall I thought it turned out good, but I know I need to change some things on it.

Creativity Lecture Summary

There are many different words that can be used to describe creativity.  Sensitivity, productivity, organization, fluency, analytical skill, playfulness, flexibility and originality are traits that creative people have.  To be creative you have to understand the problem and then devise a plan to solve it.

Part 2 Squares Critique

Here are my final two mounted square designs for playful and periodic.  My group thought that together you could tell the difference between playful and periodic but maybe not if they were separated.  They also thought that my periodic design had a similarity and playful had closure.  The group said that both pieces had good meaning.  I need to fix the rounded corners and a few of the edges to make it better.  Overall the group gave me a good critique and I think the pieces turned out well.

I feel like from all these angles, the pieces represents the actual object very well.  The hardest part was trying to keep each individual piece round and in shape.

The Exquisite Corpse

Sentence: "The bright sun dreamer spelunk some crazy chair."
I chose to use photographs to describe this sentence.  Three of the four pictures I took myself.  The picture of spelunking, I took off of Google Images since it would be hard to take a picture of that. Oh and the girl in the dreaming picture is my beautiful and absolutely amazing girlfriend! I love her =)

project part 2 squares

Here are my final 8 sketches that I believe best fit playful and periodic.

Here are my final 2 sketches.  These are the best pieces out of the 30 thumbnails that I started out with.  I think they fit the description of playful and periodic very well.

cardboard project update and critique

Pieces to make antlers.

Antlers after gluing them on the main piece.

Everyone in the critique thought this piece was starting to look like actual object though it isn't finished yet.  I was having trouble keeping the main piece round and they gave several options to help solve the problem.  Overall they the piece would turn out good when it is finished.  I am not happy how the antlers look in the above picture so I am going to redo them over the weekend and make them bigger so hopefully it will turn out better.

dot dot dot critique

I have learned about the gestalt theory in the past, but that was just the terms.  After finishing the dot dot dot project I have a greater understanding of gestalt by applying it rather to my personal work, rather than just memorizing the terms.  The group and I felt that I had a good variety throughout all 40 sketches.  I got some comments that I had to many large circles and that I needed more negative space, and after looking over the final 16, I agree.  The group chose my single best pieces for each category and I decided to use those as my final 4 because I thought they had a good distinction between each other.  Overall, the project was very tedious with drawing the 6”x6” pieces and coloring them, but it was fun and worth the experience and knowledge that I gained from it.
As far as the other members of the groups project, they’re very well done as well.  Most of them had a good variety and I was able to tell which drawing belonged in each category.  This project was fun but I don’t think I could work with dot for a living.  Thanks to the group members for giving me an honest critique on my work, I always enjoy hearing what people have to say about it.

cardboard project update

Sketches of antlers before building them out of cardboard.

Main part of the antlers.  It was hard to keep it round while gluing it together.  Now I have to figure out how to attach the other points to this piece.
